Motorcycle Training and Tests
|
Motorcycle Training All our motorcycle tuition and tests are available 7 days a week (dependant on test dates) through our sister comany TLC Motorcycle Training and also Budget Biking. Weather you would like to take some basic training (CBT - Compulsory Basic Training) to get legally on the road, take your practical motorcycle licence for full motorbike entitlement or you already have your full licence and are simply looking at taking some further training to expand your knowledge, we believe we have the right course for you. If you are not sure what you need or want to take then please either take a look further down this page for more information on our different courses or you can call us on 0800 783 4886 and we can do our best to find the perfect course / test to suit your needs. |
CBT - Compulsory Basic Training From the age of 16 years, you are legally allowed to ride on the road with a provisional motorcycle licence and a completed, valid, CBT certificate (DL196). The CBT certificate is required by law if you want to ride a motorbike on the road and take the practical motorcycle test. The CBT course lasts for one day, however this can vary depending on what happens during the day and how you progress. Once you have successfully completed the compulsory basic training, you will have a DL196 certificate issued to you which is then valid for 2 years. Your CBT certificate will remain valid for the two years as long as you...
Age Restrictions Please Note - CBT is an abbreviation of Compulsory Basic Training and is NOT A TEST. However, you are required to reach a certain standard of riding skills before a DL196 (CBT certificate) is issued to you. |
STT - Standard Test Training The STT course is suitable for anyone aged 17 years and over wanting to gain their full motorcycle licence. Standard Test Training is mostly popular with people aged between 17 and 20 years and is also a popular course for ladies as the training and test is taken on a smaller and lighter motorcycle than is used for the DAS (Direct Access Scheme). The duration of the STT can depend on your riding skills and your road experience. The majority of our STT pupils normally choose to take our minimum course of 3 days (2 training days and 2x half days for test days). The standard test training is taken on a 125cc motorcycle from start to finish. When you have passed your module 2 part of the practical motorcycle test, you are then entitled to ride any motorcycle providing it has no more than 33bhp (25kW) for the first two years of holding your motorcycle licence. After your two year restriction is over, the 33bhp (25kW) restriction is automatically lifted and you are then entitled to ride any motorcycle as you would then have a full motorcycle licence. You are not required to send you licence off when the restriction has ended. The test and training, with our motorbike, is taken on a 125cc geared motorcycle which will allow you to ride geared or automatic motorcycles. However, if you take the practical motorcycle test on an automatic motorbike then you will only be entitled to ride automatic motorcycles but you will be able to take the practical test again on a geared motorcycle. Before taking your standard test training course, you will need the following with you:

DAS - Direct Access Scheme The DAS (Direct Access Scheme) is available to anyone aged 21 years and over who would like to have their full motorcycle licence. Unlike the STT the DAS is taken on a large motorcycle and ther is no restriction to what you are allowed to ride after you pass your module 2 practical test. The duration of the DAS can depend on your riding skills and your road experience. The majority of our DAS pupils normally choose to take our minimum course of 3 days (2 training days and 2x half days for test days). The direct access test and training is taken on a 500cc motorcycle from start to finish. When you have passed your module 2 part of the practical motorcycle test, you will be entitled to ride any motorcycle with no restrictions. The test and training, with our motorbike, is taken on a 500cc geared motorcycle which will allow you to ride geared or automatic motorcycles. However, if you take the practical motorcycle test on an automatic motorbike then you will only be entitled to ride automatic motorcycles but you will be able to take the practical test again on a geared motorcycle. Before taking your direct access course, you will need the following with you:

| Pillion Passenger Training |
|---|
|
We are one of the only training schools that offer this kind of course. When alot of people pass their motorcycle test, one of the reasons are so they can carry a pillion passenger (somebody on the back of their motorbike). You don't need to specifically train to carry a pillion but we do recommend that you get some form of training with an instructor first. You can take this course over half a day or a whole day - depending on experience. If you have just passed your test and/or have no experience in carrying a pillion, we recommend that you book or apply for a whole days training (6 hours average - excl. breaks). It may be that the course will not take an entire day but our instructors are always busy, so we say to book the whole day so the day can be relaxing for you and you dont feel rushed to take in the information and training. If you have passed your test and have had some experience carrying a pillion, but you want to take some training to make sure you are 'doing the right thing' then we recommend that you book the half a day course. This course is not compulsory but we do advise that you take the course to gain knowledge and experience - especially if you are likely to be carrying pillions on a regular basis. |
| Back to Biking - Refresher Course |
|---|
If you haven’t been riding for a while or would like to ‘update’ yourself with the new laws, then this is the course for you. Depending on your experience, the course is a 1/2 day to one whole days training. There is no test at the end and all that is required is a full bike licence. If required, we can supply you with a bike and the correct gear you need.
All motorcycle training can be booked through our staff at The licence centre, we act purely as a booking agent and any training will be carried out by TLC Motorcycle Training and Budget Biking, see our contact list for full information on TLC Motorcycle Training and Budget Biking. |
